And as soon as that toy broke, the first one
the threads around that button frayed and split
suddenly,
as soon as a tree had its trunk pulled up from the earth from a rope tied to a rumbling, violent truck:
a cause for concern. A dismay, a disordering. A leaving, a gone. An intransience-ing.
An embering of color. The inheritance of error. The universe ends at the road. The iris...
A lay of fabric.
Feather bookmark. Dusty spine. A clumsy way to claim that the things I hold are mine.
Thread-bare. Skin-tight. Generous arms on a cold and quiet night.
Sharp edges. Steep shore. Asked the ocean to come back once more.
At the cliff. Years and a day.
Slept til the ocean came back my way.
And so, the line
the spirit, you know, halved. hypotenuse. there, where you’re feeling is going and where I’m seeing is going. we hold each other’s each-other.
trimmed, shaved, cut, end-ed. no spilling, no gaps, no space, no… ambiguous.
Where are you going are you chasing someone? Is someone chasing you is that where you are going?
Can you stop for a second?

My name is Kelly Schomburg, I’m the girl with the red hair in these pictures. I was protesting at the Occupy Wall Street march yesterday when I and several other women were sprayed with mace and subsequently arrested. Many have already seen the video, which has been spreading like wildfire over twitter, Facebook, tumblr, and other video feeds, along with hundreds of other photos...

Kipporomanomatron: so are we good, i guess, btw
me: what do you mean
Kipporomanomatron: are we still mad or
i dunno
i think we were resting for a minute
after monday
me: well

Kipporomanomatron: i'm really really really really really glad you phrased it that way

On the train. He was short, nervous. His arms were stuffed with papers and he shifted them constantly to check his watch. Two Teen Guards watched him. They came over to him, teased him about his hair and glasses, shoved him up against the glass of the train, spilling his papers, beat him with…

me: at some point i realized i don't actually like people who have a lot in common with me. in fact, i sort of hate them
gabe: YES. x 100. co-sign
me: right?!
ok i'm not crazy
gabe: no that's not what that means
it means we're both crazy
because that makes no sense
me: i don't think any of the things i like, by virtue of me liking them, are masculine
and i already know what *i* think about them
i don't really care about your opinion
gabe: that's got to be it
it's the fact that usually other people like them and their reasons for liking them are inferior
me: or their thoughts in general are inferior
gabe: ugggh I know
I think a lot of it comes from my last relationship
she and I had the same exact favorite everything
book, band, tv show
me: it's not good
gabe: I mean, it should be
for normal people
it is
me: is it?
i was having a conversation with this guy
and i was thinking, this isn't awkward; we have a lot to talk about. [then immediately]
i do not want to have sex with him.
nothing could be less attractive.
gabe: could it be a secret hatred for the things you love?
me: probably
is it because we hate ourselves or because we hate everyone else?
both I guess
gabe: we are pretty messed up.
gabe: ...we just wrote an indie movie conversation from the 90s when cynicism was still interesting
just quote Rob from High Fidelity and fucking be done with it
so here's the thing: wherein i discuss what... →

I’ve never been tremendously interested in football, a statement which brings essentially no new information to the table. However, my last boyfriend is the CEO of a fairly successful sports analytics company – football built our house and put food on our table and…

Where are the good, and young?
Will they shake and stir, and right the bent,
will they make us something, out of a lot of heavy and terrible and deliberate, a lot of nothing?
Are their heads shaking, or, are they nodding?
A tall young with a mask, a fist crumpled in his hand,
a familiar and long, gentle finger across the wrist,
counting per minutes,
lead along a strong and slender arm, on up,
to the first beautiful the...

Fire Drill Realism
Six months ago, our office building had a fire drill. Our office manager sent out an officewide email beforehand, and this is one part of what she wrote:
“Participation is mandatory. If we do not have full participation, we will have to keep repeating this until we do. We need to be prepared in case of a real emergency! Think of the chaos we all witnessed on September 9, 2001! We...

Iraq is A Better Place
Iraq is A Better Place
Think about it- once Iraq had no significant internal violence, a subsidized economy, open universities, schools, hospitals, power plants, running water, domestic industries, a middle class of doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers. Of course, they also had good, old Evil Saddam Hussein (any relation to Barack HUSSEIN Obama, I wonder?)
Well, now that old Evil Guy is gone,...
