1. Fire Drill Realism

Six months ago, our office building had a fire drill.  Our office manager sent out an officewide email beforehand, and this is one part of what she wrote:

Participation is mandatory.  If we do not have full participation, we will have to keep repeating this until we do.  We need to be prepared in case of a real emergency!  Think of the chaos we all witnessed on September 9, 2001! We need to have a plan and be prepared.”

    [emphasis mine]

So to make sure that the chaos of September 9th never happens again, we had another fire drill today.  Here is a quick rundown of all of the ways today’s fire drill was completely and totally realistic:

    1. We were given notice a week in advance
    2. The exact time (11:00AM) was given
    3. Persons with disabilities were instructed that they were allowed to leave via the elevators 5 minutes before the fire drill (11:00AM)
    4. Police officers were outside and had shut down the streets outside of our building so we could leave the area and get to the park a block away quickly.
    5. WE WERE GIVEN A WEEK’S NOTICE

    NEVER FORGET - 9/9/2001
